Over the last decade, metal&wood has developed a distinctive collection of minimalist, functional and heirloom quality furniture. We are committed to working with noble materials and to using solid construction with firm joinery. From deeply finishing the wood, to adapting simple old and trusted technique with modern ones - each of our pieces is refined to a resolute high quality. Our tactile creative process and hands-on approach working with beautiful raw materials integrate both minimalism and depth. We believe in design that should be enjoyed for a lifetime. Whether a private residence, hotel, club, or a new conceptual space we seek to create complementing items with beautiful materials, lines, edges and shapes - distinguished by a hand made, organic and unique aesthetic.
Between the atelier and studio we explore, refine and improve each piece of furniture until it is ready to join the collection. A new idea for a piece is initially hand-drawn on a piece of scrap, or directly bent or shaped in the workshop then rendered in the studio. We believe in making first and foremost. Our creative process is always in momentum, it is a non-stop evolution and place for experimentation. Whilst the initial stages of design can vary, the refinement process is consistent. The design process is not limited to prototypes and renders as it becomes the living moment until birth.
we have a decade of experience designing & creating solutions for custom orders, interiors & everything in between.
Our traditional wood finish is an oil finish that is deep-rooted in the wood. Depending on the timber and end-use, our items undergo a seven-stage oiling and polishing process that is unique to us. As the solid wood matures, each piece develops a unique character over time. All of our metal is hand bent, shop welded; ground or polished, hand filed and always free of putty. The steel finish is either powder coated or clear-coated using motorcycle-grade lacquer. We also offer our items in various metals and finishes such as stainless steel, copper or brass depending on the item's structural integrity and the metal to be used.
We take special pleasure working on one-off custom-made pieces or commission projects, as we continually visualize our designs being adapted to various forms and shapes and convert new spaces. Creating tailor-made solutions fits with our innovative nature. We use computer-aided design software to explore various materials, measurements and settings with the client. We feel that a good commissioned piece of furniture should suit the space it occupies as it transitions into becoming its own antique.
